Rules and terms
Last updated
Gotcha! is played in real places, around real people. These rules keep it fair and keep everyone safe. Gotcha! is run by Two Points Media ("we").
How to play
- No chasing anyone into traffic.
- No trespassing. Stay where you're allowed to be.
- No physical contact. A snap is a photo, nothing more.
- Snap only with the in-app camera.
- No harassment or threats, and nothing sexual, hateful or violent in your name, your photos or anything else you share in the game.
- Follow your Organizer's rules for the game, and the law.
Safety rules
These are built into every game. No Organizer can turn them off.
- No snaps at driving speed. A snap doesn't count if you or your target is moving at vehicle speed.
- Protected places. No snaps inside private homes, restrooms, medical facilities or places of worship. The one exception is a venue home: if the Organizer sets a home as the game's venue and it's inside the play area, that one home is open to snaps. Restrooms inside it stay protected, and every other home stays protected.
- Bystanders are blurred. Faces of people who aren't the target are blurred automatically.
- Photos don't last. All photos are deleted when the game ends.
- Location. You must allow precise location to join a game. While you're in an active game, your phone reports its position so the game can check snaps. Your exact position is seen only by the game server, kept for 30 minutes, and deleted when you're out or the game ends.
- Location off. If your location stops reporting for 10 minutes and your phone wasn't last reported standing still, you can't snap or be snapped until it's back. The app tells you how to turn it back on, and your Organizer is told.
- Pause me. You can pause yourself at once in an emergency. It's limited so it can't be used to dodge a snap.
- Organizers can remove players. An Organizer can remove any player, and the game carries on without them.
- Report: uncomfortable. If the player hunting you makes you uncomfortable, report them. They're frozen until the report is reviewed.
Who can play
You must be 18 or older and in the United States to play. Games are invite-only: you join a game only when its Organizer invites you.
What you agree to when you join
By joining a game, you agree:
- to follow these rules and your Organizer's rules for the game;
- that the safety rules apply to you and can't be turned off;
- that the players in your game see your name, and that the players hunting you, and anyone judging a contested snap, see your reference selfies and Today's Look until the game ends;
- that your data is handled as the privacy policy says;
- that an Organizer can remove you from their game, and that we can remove you from a game or close your account if you break these rules.
How reports are handled
You can report a player or a snap to support@twopointsmedia.com. The support page says what to include. Every report is reviewed, and acted on within 24 hours. Acting on a report can mean removing a snap, removing a player from a game, or closing an account.
An "uncomfortable" report freezes the reported player straight away, before the review.
